GRANDPA BOB & GRANDMA TERRI, PART II

Grandpa Bob with August.

Grandma Terri with August.

After Grandpa Bob and Grandma Terri's visit, Gus sat on the couch with Irene for a while.

I really like this picture because it looks like Gus took it himself. He didn't, though. He's too small to hold the camera.

A LONG WEEKEND

Uncle John spoke beautifully at Paul's memorial service. Here he is holding baby Gus.

And here is Nana and Aunt Mo admiring the little guy. I'm sorry I didn't take more pictures at the open house because there were so many relatives and friends, but it was a pretty lousy day and I wasn't thinking about that. Poor Laura had to watch everyone juggle her precious little boy around, and she was gracious throughout the entire day.
Uncle John and Cousins John and Cindy visited the next day. Cousin John is holding Gus here.

Grandpa Bob and Grandma Terri visited that weekend, too. They were overjoyed to see August Paul.

Laura made us matching hats.

MORE VISITORS AND MORE KNITTED THINGS

Baby face. About five days old.
Gus gets a lot of visitors. Here is a picture from Kayla's first visit. I also have a video of Kayla singing the Glo-Worm song, but I'm not going to post that now.
Nana and Anna visited again before we took August for his first trip to their house.
Nana rocking Gus on his first trip to her house.

Not really sure what was going on here. I think the banana means something. Laura made this sweater for him and I call it his Yoda sweater.

MORE

I was super embarassed about this photo when I took it for two reasons:
1. Jaundice! You can see how yellow he got - everyone said it was just newborn jaundice and it would go away, but I was paranoid that folks would think I wasn't taking care of him because he was turning colors.
2. His hands - when he was 2 and 3 days old, his skin got extremely dry, leading to his hands looking like he'd been in a street fight. I was so glad when they healed.
I knit this little hat once I was able to measure his head. I had to make 2 because the first one was too small.
This is the photo I used for the birth announcements. It's not my favorite photo but it was one of the only ones I had where his eyes were open. He spent a lot of time with his eyes closed in the first few days.

THE NEXT COULE OF DAYS

We're all pretty sleepy a lot of the time.
This is not a flattering picture of the little guy. He's got the baby Buddha face and the double chin, though, and I really like it.

Aunt Katie and Cousin Jonah meeting baby Gus for the first time. Laura likes this picture because of the defiant baby fist raised to the air.

Grandma Mary holding August.
One of my favorite pictures from the first few days is this one. I carried a copy of this one with me to show the kids when I went back to work.
Laura has been such a good momma, but she looks really sleepy here. We're all pretty sleepy a lot of the time.

A NEW DAY

When we were expecting the baby, people often made a big deal of how different our lives would be after his birth - what we didn't know is that our lives were going to be forever changed in two ways. Ben recently recalled a conversation he had with Paul, when Paul described the baby as just what our family needed, and he was right.

another picture we sent to everyone. several people have commented on his sagely expression.
not so sagely here.
Gus's badass hands.

MORE PICTURES FROM MARCH 18

Another blurry picture. I'm not much of a photographer. Baby Gus already has one of Laura's knitted hats on his little head and he's resting on her.

Aunt Anna meets August Paul.

Everybody smells the baby's head. I wish there were a few pictures of all four of us with the baby. This one is also special because you can see Luke in the background.I really like this picture of Laura and August Paul - this is also from the night he was born.

AUGUST PAUL!

I think this was the first picture that we emailed around to family - a little blurry. Little August Paul is about a half hour old in this picture.
Another first picture of August Paul (who I really don't remember being so pink) with Momma.

Here Baby Gus is getting his first examination from Emme, one of the three midwives who attended his birth. Gus had an apgar score and all that but I don't recall what it is.

the first visitors to the new baby were Nana and Anna, and it was great for all four of us to be together with him.
